Background: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at the front line of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak response. They have faced great risks to both physical and mental health. We aimed to assess the psychological effect of COVID-19 among ancillary hospital staff. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 267 on-duty ancillary hospital staff using a semi-structured questionnaire to assess their psychological status and risk perception. In addition, their knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) and risk perception were also assessed. The General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) was used to screen for psychological distress. Results: Among 267 participants, the mean (±SD) age was 33.5 (7.6) years. The majority knew about the symptoms of COVID-19 (88.4%), droplet spread (99.3%), and the importance of isolation (99.3%). About 35.2% were worried about infecting family members, while 26.2% were worried about colleagues at the frontline. Only 38.9% of them had a good knowledge score. Participants with high school and above education level had significantly good knowledge about COVID-19 (OR = 1.99; 95% CI = 1.17- 3.39) than those with primary school or below. Being female (OR 1.99; 95% CI 1.17-3.39) and working with COVID-19 patients (OR 3.88, 95% CI 1.77-8.47, P = 0.001) was associated with psychological distress. Conclusion: The ancillary hospital staff had insufficient knowledge regarding the risk factors of COVID-19 but possessed positive attitudes and practices. Continued health education and appropriate psychological interventions may improve understanding and reduce psychological distress.

Surviving in a digitally disrupted world required organizations to continuously innovate and digitally transform their work practices, especially HR processes. Scholarly failure to define and conceptualize the construct of human resource digital transformation (HRDT) suggests the lack of an integrated approach to understanding HRDT as a discipline. This study presents an overarching and integrated conceptual framework of HRDT, grounded in robust qualitative research, to describe factors in successfully implementing HRDT. Drawing insights from 20 senior HR professionals in multinational organizations, this study defines HRDT as a multidimensional construct resulting from successful integration of digital and individual factors into the innovation capability of organizations. Expanding the dynamic-capabilities perspective, this study proposes that in uncertain and turbulent times, such as COVID-19, businesses must constantly upgrade organizational capabilities, manifested in the innovation capability with enablers such as- digital infrastructure, architecture, and individual capability and creativity. The COVID‐19 pandemic and associated factors influence customers' stockpiling intentions. This study examines the impact of various factors on customers' stockpiling intentions. It develops a model combining threat severity and fear of COVID‐19, customer well‐being dimensions, and constructs relating to the theories of planned behavior and competitive arousal to explain the effect of these on stockpiling intentions. Adopting a quantitative design, we analyzed data from 476 respondents using covariance‐based structural equation modeling. The empirical results confirm that threat severity (with the fear of COVID‐19 as a mediator) and fear of COVID‐19 positively influenced individuals' attitudes toward stockpiling. Additionally, a positive attitude toward stockpiling, subjective norms that support stockpiling, the degree of perceived behavioral control, perceived scarcity, and time pressure positively influence stockpiling intentions. This study's findings thus contribute to a better understanding of customers' stockpiling intentions during a crisis and assist policymakers in developing effective COVID‐19 response and recovery strategies. PurposeSocial customer relationship management (SCRM) is an evolving strategy gaining prominence in the hotel industry by cultivating new, improved relationships through engaging customers on social media (SM) platforms. Accordingly, this study aims to assess the effect of SCRM on customer service and customer loyalty (CL) in the hotel industry. This study also explores the moderating effect of COVID-19 (EC) on the relationship between (customer engagement [CE] and improved customer service [ICS]) and (CE and trust [TR]).Design/methodology/approachThis study develops and tests the SCRM model using structural equation modelling on a sample size of 214 responses. The questionnaire was administered online to the customers of five preselected global hotel chains. The criteria for selecting the participants were that they must have tweeted from their Twitter handle by using # (hashtag) hotel name to resolve any customer service issues.FindingsResults denote that CE significantly impacts ICS. CE was also found to exert a substantial effect on TR. The moderating EC was also found to be significant, but the effect was weak. Although the customers were extensively impacted by the pandemic and were initially hesitant to visit hotels, SCRM proved to be a powerful tool to gain back customer trust (CT) and develop CL by upsurging the shadows of COVID-19.Practical implicationsThis study suggests that viable enforcement of the SCRM system can assist in real-time monitoring and tracking of customers' activities. This can develop a more profound connection with customers through CE which can boost the co-innovation process.Originality/valueThis study denotes a pioneer attempt to investigate the relationships between SCRM, CE, CT, ICS, CL and COVID-19 in the same framework in a SM context.

RESUMEN

Purpose>Obesity is today’s most neglected, yet blatantly visible, public health problem. This study aims to examine the role of social media and goal-directed behavior in motivating healthy lifestyle intentions for customers experiencing obesity. It investigates the distinct roles of self-conscious emotions (shame and pride) and weight-transformational posts shared by others on social media as moderators of these relationships.Design/methodology/approach>The conceptual model uses the goal-directed behavior theory and social comparison theory, tested using data collected from 804 obese customers in Fiji through an experimental design.Findings>Weight-loss transformation posts by others on social media, elicit distinct emotions for obese customers. Obese customers who felt guilt and shame due to shared weight-loss transformation posts showed a stronger association between goal disclosure and healthy lifestyle intention. In addition, the association between goal disclosure and healthy lifestyle intention is conditionally mediated by goal commitment, specifically for those obese customers that elicited guilt over shame due to shared weight-loss transformation posts by others on social media.Research limitations/implications>Despite the adoption of an experimental design using a fictional stimulus being a commonly used method in marketing studies, external validity issues are likely. Also, this study examines obese customer behavior relating to Facebook. In addition, data collection for this study has been done from a single country perspective. Therefore, caution needs to be exercised when generalizing the findings of this study.Practical implications>The findings assist businesses and marketers in the health and fitness industry to better leverage social media and goal-directed behavior and understand the emotions of obese customers to undertake data-driven precision marketing strategies.Originality/value>The findings provide novel insights into goal disclosure and commitment, electronic word-of-mouth on social media platforms, self-conscious emotions and healthy lifestyle intentions for customers experiencing obesity.

Background The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection was declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization. A total of three waves across most of the states in India have been reported to date, during which strict lockdown was imposed and conditional relaxations were offered between the subsequent waves. Amid the high morbidity and mortality, there has been severe psychological distress among people which has led to mental health impairment. Methodology We investigated the level of fear in the Indian population due to COVID-19 using the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCS-19) and various factors influencing it. A cross-sectional study was undertaken across India among participants more than 18 years of age by recruiting participants through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Along with the FCS-19 questionnaire, sociodemographic information about the participants, preexisting history of comorbidities, and psychiatric illnesses were collected. The study sample was drawn by convenience technique, and the data were collected over two months from October 2021 to December 2021. Results A total of 419 participants (212 females and 207 males) participated in the study. The mean FCS-19 score of the population was 18.29 ± 6.43 (SD). Participants with a history of COVID-19-related deaths in their own family or surrounding areas had a significantly higher FCS-19 score than those without a history of COVID-19-related deaths. The mean FCS-19 score for healthcare professionals was also significantly lower than for other professions. FCS-19 scores were significantly higher among participants with psychiatric conditions than those without. Conclusions The study showed a positive association between a preexisting mental health disease and FCS-19 score and a negative association if the participant was a healthcare professional. While other factors such as age, gender, residential area, and preexisting comorbidity did not show a significant association with fear associated with COVID-19.

Purpose>This study defines a three-angled research plan to intensify the knowledge and development undergoing in the retail sector. It proposes a theoretical framework of the customer journey to explain the customers' intent to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) as a protective measure for interaction between the customer and the brand.Design/methodology/approach>This study presents a research agenda from three-dimensional online search, ML and AI algorithms. This paper enhances the readers' understanding by reviewing the literature present in utilizing AI in the customer journey and presenting a theoretical framework.Findings>Using AI tools like Chatbots, Recommenders, Virtual Assistance and Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) helps create improved brand awareness, better customer relationships marketing and personalized product modification.Originality/value>This study intends to identify a research plan based on investigating customer journey trends in today's changing times with AI incorporation. The research provides a novel model framework of the customer journey by directing customers into different stages and providing different touchpoints in each stage, all supported with AI and ML.

COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA), the presence of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in COVID-19 patients, is one of the concerning secondary infections associated with higher mortality and worse clinical outcomes. Diagnosing CAPA may be challenging due to the possible absence of classic host factors and clinical symptoms or obscured radiological findings. We described two CAPA cases, which were suspected due to persistent respiratory failure despite standard treatment of COVID-19 with additional therapies and antimicrobial agents for secondary infections, eventually diagnosed with serum galactomannan testing. Clinical conditions of both patients improved significantly after the administration of voriconazole. This case series emphasizes the importance of being aware of clinical suspicions indicating CAPA followed by galactomannan testing as a relatively fast, noninvasive test for its diagnosis, which leads to appropriate antifungal treatment.

BACKGROUND: Critically ill COVID-19 pneumonia is one of the main causes of extubation failure and mortality. Understanding clinical characteristics, laboratory profiles and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) immunopathology may help improve outcomes in critically ill COVID-19 pneumonia. We aimed to describe clinical characteristics, laboratory profiles and BALF immunopathology based on lung severity in critically ill COVID-19 pneumonia patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty critically ill severe pneumonia patients requiring invasive mechanical ventilation in Cipto Mangunkusumo General (National Tertiary Referral Hospital), Indonesia within November 2020-January 2021 were enrolled in this study. Early BALF collection was performed after patients' intubation. Clinical characteristics, laboratory profiles and BALF biomarkers (sTREM-1, alveolar macrophage amount and function, IL-6, IL-17, CD4 T-cells, Tregs, SP-A and Caspase-3) were observed and analysed. Outcomes were measured based on extubation failure (within 19 days) and 28-days mortality. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed. RESULTS: Early bronchoscopy was performed in an average of 4 h (SD = 0.82) after patients' intubation. Twenty-three and twenty-two patients had extubation failure (within 19 days) and 28-days mortality, respectively. In the baseline clinical characteristics of critically ill COVID-19 patients, we found no significant differences in the extubation and mortality status groups. In the laboratory profiles of critically ill COVID-19 patients, we found no significant differences in the extubation status groups. In critically ill COVID-19 pneumonia patients, there was a significant high D-dimer levels in survived group (p = .027), a significant low BALF CD4 T-cells count in the right lung (p = .001) and a significant low BALF CD4 T-cells count (p = .010 and p = .018) in severely affected lung with extubation failure and mortality. CONCLUSIONS: BALF CD4 T-cells count evaluation of severely affected lung is associated with early extubation failure and mortality in critically ill COVID-19 pneumonia patients. KEY MESSAGEFew studies have been conducted during the peak COVID-19 period analysing combined bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) immunopathology biomarkers within four hours of intubation to assess extubation failure and mortality. In this study, we reported eight BALF immunopathology biomarkers (sTREM-1, alveolar macrophage, IL-6, IL-17, CD4 T-cells, Tregs, SP-A and Caspase-3).We found significantly low BALF CD4 T-cells count in the right lung, and low BALF CD4 T-cells count in severely affected lung of critically ill COVID-19 pneumonia patients in extubation failure and mortality.

Purpose>This study aims to find, analyse and synthesise the body of literature on how different health-care businesses form business-to-business (B2B) alliances. By doing so, this study seeks to identify visible research gaps to suggest future research questions and develop a conceptual framework to set a future research agenda.Design/methodology/approach>The study uses the time-tested systematic literature review method to identify 57 studies that have addressed B2B relationships in the health-care industry. Thereafter, a qualitative analysis is performed to delineate the research profile and synthesise the key themes examined in the selected studies.Findings>The qualitative analysis uncovers two key thematic foci: types and purposes of B2B relationships and pertinent issues in continued B2B relationships. Within these themes, the authors highlight different types of firms and their reasons for engaging in B2B relationships. The authors also summarise various issues that these firms deal with in such relationships. Finally, the authors highlight the limitations in the existing research and suggest future research questions to address them. The findings are summarised in a conceptual framework.Originality/value>Although several reviews exist that evaluate the state-of-the-art research on B2B relationships, very few have examined the same in the context of health care. This review adds value to the research by providing a comprehensive overview of the existing findings in the area to encourage future research through a conceptual framework.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the fitness landscape leading to phenomenal growth in virtual workouts. This study investigates factors influencing virtual workout team commitment and post-pandemic workout intentions. A conceptual framework is developed that is grounded in the social identity theory. Online data collection is employed to gather responses from 406 team virtual workout participants. Results reveal that virtual workout team participation positively influences team identification, satisfaction, and compliance with team norms. Additionally, virtual workout team identification, satisfaction, and compliance to team norms were found to be antecedents of commitment to the virtual workout team. Commitment to virtual workout teams is revealed to be positively associated with post-pandemic virtual team workout intention and post-pandemic traditional team workout intention. However, the relationship with post-pandemic traditional team workout intentions was found to be stronger. Valuable theoretical and practical insights emerge, providing a better understanding of virtual workout team commitment and how marketers and practitioners can ensure post-pandemic success by better understanding customer behaviour.

Background: Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Complications and mortality are higher at lower-volume centres. Most Canadian ECLS institutions are low-volume centres. Protocols offer one way to share best practices among institutions to improve outcomes. Whether Canadian centres have ECLS protocols, and whether these protocols are comprehensive and homogenous across centres, is unknown. Methods: Purposeful sampling with mixed methods was used. A Delphi panel defined key elements relevant to the ECLS process. Documentation used in the delivery of ECLS services was requested from programs. Institutional protocols were assessed using deductive coding to determine the presence of key elements. Results: A total of 37 key elements spanning 5 domains (referral, initiation, maintenance, termination, and administration) were identified. Documentation from 13 institutions across 10 provinces was obtained. Institutions with heart or lung transplantation programs had more-complete documentation than did non-transplantation programs. Only 5 key elements were present in at least 50% of protocols (anticoagulation strategy, ventilation strategy, defined referral process, selection criteria, weaning process), and variation was seen in how institutions approached each of these elements. Conclusions: The completeness of ECLS protocols varies across Canada. Programs describe variable approaches to key elements. This variability might represent a lack of evidence or consensus in these areas and creates the opportunity for collaboration among institutions to share protocols and best practice. The key-element framework provides a common language that programs can use to develop ECLS programs, initiate quality-improvement projects, and identify research agendas.


Introduction: L'assistance cardiorespiratoire extracorporelle (ACRE) est associée à des taux élevés de morbidité et de mortalité. Les taux de complications et de mortalité sont plus élevés dans les centres à volume plus faible. La plupart des établissements qui offrent l'ACRE au Canada sont des centres à volume faible. Les protocoles constituent un moyen de partager des pratiques exemplaires entre les établissements afin d'améliorer les résultats. On ignore si les centres du Canada ont des protocoles d'ACRE, et si ces protocoles sont exhaustifs et homogènes dans tous les centres. Méthodes: Nous avons utilisé un échantillonnage dirigé par méthodes mixtes. Le panel Delphi a défini les éléments fondamentaux pertinents au processus d'ACRE. La documentation utilisée pour la prestation de services d'ACRE a été demandée aux programmes. Nous avons évalué les protocoles des établissements au moyen du processus inductif de codification pour déterminer la présence d'éléments fondamentaux. Résultats: Nous avons relevé un total de 37 éléments fondamentaux couvrant cinq domaines (aiguillage, amorce, maintien, cessation et administration). La documentation provenait de 13 établissements de 10 provinces. Les établissements qui ont des programmes de transplantation cardiaque ou pulmonaire avaient une documentation plus complète que les programmes sans transplantation. Seuls cinq éléments fondamentaux étaient présents dans au moins 50 % des protocoles (stratégie d'anticoagulation, stratégie de ventilation, processus défini d'aiguillage, critères de sélection, processus de sevrage), et une variation était observée dans la façon dont les établissements considéraient chacun de ces éléments. Conclusions: Au Canada, l'exhaustivité des protocoles d'ACRE varie. Les programmes décrivent la variabilité des approches des éléments fondamentaux. Cette variabilité qui pourrait représenter le manque de données probantes ou de consensus dans ces domaines ouvre la voie à la collaboration des établissements au partage des protocoles et des pratiques exemplaires. Le cadre des éléments fondamentaux contribue à offrir un langage commun que peuvent utiliser les programmes pour élaborer des programmes d'ACRE, amorcer des projets d'amélioration de la qualité et établir des programmes de recherche.

RESUMEN

It is now widely recognized that COVID-19 illness can be associated with significant intermediate and potentially longer-term physical limitations. The term, "long COVID-19" is used to define any patient with persistent symptoms after acute COVID-19 infection (ie, after 4 weeks). It is postulated that cardiac injury might be linked to symptoms that persist after resolution of acute infection, as part of this syndrome. The Canadian Cardiovascular Society Rapid Response Team has generated this document to provide guidance to health care providers on the optimal management of patients with suspected cardiac complications of long COVID-19.

Pada awal 2020, dunia dikejutkan dengan mewabahnya pneumonia baru yang bermula dari Wuhan, Provinsi Hubei yang kemudian menyebar dengan cepat ke lebih dari 190 negara dan teritori. Wabah ini diberi nama coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) yang disebabkan oleh Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Penyebaran penyakit ini telah memberikan dampak luas secara sosial dan ekonomi. Masih banyak kontroversi seputar penyakit ini, termasuk dalam aspek penegakkan diagnosis, tata laksana, hingga pencegahan. Oleh karena itu, kami melakukan telaah terhadap studi-studi terkait COVID-19 yang telah banyak dipublikasikan sejak awal 2020 lalu sampai dengan akhir Maret 2020. Kata Kunci: COVID-19, pandemi, SARS-CoV-2, Wuhan Coronavirus Disease 2019: Review of Current Literatures
